Title: Challenges in the Mournes
Post by: paulocon on October 09, 2010
Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any decent challenge walks around the Mournes?

I done the Mourne Wall Walk back in early May and done the Oxfam Trailtrekker 100km walk early September - finding myself getting bored now and need some new challenge to take on.

Thinking of maybe walking the Mourne Wall again before the clocks go forward but wondering if anyone knows of any other decent challenge walks in the area?

Cheers in advance,
Paul

The Mourne Wall is the hardest I know of. The Seven Sevens is a tough one too.

how about a night hike on a clear moonlit evening

and there's always the Mourne Mountain Marathon routes to do, probably best done in daylight though

and spotted this today, its on 16th October http://gr8dundrumrun.com/

Quote
GR8 Dundrum Run. This is the first year of this event which promises to be one of the most scenic races on the race calendar. The 8.4 mile race is being organised by Murlough AC (one of Northern Ireland's fastest growing clubs) in association with the National Trust. the race will incorporate a mix of road, trail, beach and boardwalk and a section of the race will include Murlough Nature Reserve.
Entries strictly limited to 300 and only online www.niathletics.org stg £12 (affiliated) or £14 (unaffiliated).
The race will be held 'where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea' is only 2 hours from Dublin (1.5 hours from North co. Dublin).

Thanks for the suggestions..

Haven't been doing a lot of running recently so it'll be walking only!

If the weather holds, I think I might do the wall walk on saturday or sunday...

Something I've been planning on getting into myself - unfortunately my fitness has dipped of late (young family!) so need to get back out training again.

That link is broken but would be interested in seeing the routes. Living in County Louth so hoping to do a couple of the IMRA races next year.
