BOOOOOOOOO

You only gave us 80 minutes. I was still thinking. In fact I still am thinking - 3 is a hard choice. Are you talking purely favourite bits of kit or 3 things I wouldn't want to get caught without?

Mine would be...
1. Firestarter.
2. Water Container.
3. Large bar of chocoloate - preferably Galaxy.
Alan.
-
1. Blackberry
2. Camera
3. Goretex Coat (only to keep 1 and 2 dry ;D )

Hmm. In that case:
1) Mini trangia (There's something about an alcohol stove that really makes you feel like you're outdoors)
2) GPS (I like to keep it on so I can upload my track to the computer)
3) Titanium cup (Now I have a cup I can boil water in it's totally changed my cooking systems)
A noteable mention for the bivvy bag just because I really love the idea of ultralight bivvying rather than camping.
I totally reserve the right to change mine since I was rushed ;)
-
ok ok....
1. Phoenix zipped Bivvi Bag
2. Montane Extreme Smock
3. Alpkit Pipedream 600
(Subject to change)

no. I always bring dry base layers to sleep in. I find thats the worst thing about a down bag though you do feel like your babysitting it a bit but.....when you get into it, best feeling in the world on a cold night ;D

hunka bivy bag
pocket rocket + titanium mug
snickers
-
1. Lightwave fastpack rucksack
2. Rab ranger bivvy
3. Sealskin socks
Not really kit but a bottle if port compliments all if the 3 above :-)
-
Only really because I can stick it straight on the gas. Used to be that if I only carried one pot then once I had used it to cook it a proper clean before I could use it to boil water for a hot drink. Now that I can boil in the cup lots of my pot based menu dilemmas have gone. Only problem now is the cup wont go straight on the Mini Trangia but I'll eventually come up with some sort of contraption!!

Theres just something about overnighters where they're made that bit better by being able to set fire to something.
1. Half a fire log

Chuck was so thoughtful that he lite his under my tarp and warmed the ground for me to lie on . It's also a good place to sit round for a bit of banter
-
1. Buff
2. Vango Tempest tent
3. Salomon Quest boots
The Buff gives me the simplest of pleasures; is it a beanie, a scarf, a headband, a balaclava, a pirate cap, a face cloth, a towel... the list goes on! My Vango Tempest tent is already becoming like an old friend to me (and Kat!). Its not the lightest, but I can see it becoming a bit of a home-from-home. The boots are a no brainer as well, as I always have comfy dry feet at the end of a long day. These are a few of my favourite things...
-
I love seeing what other people rate as there best kit.
I am thinking about buying a Buff.
This is a message for all you lurkers out there.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAV BIT OF KIT? COME AND JOIN IN
-
That's a difficult question, as the kit would change with different environments. For most places in Northern Ireland I'd get by with the following...
Knife
Steel mug
Water bottle
-
TK-Maxx sell cheapy three packs of buffs for less then a £5. Not as long as the real ones...but at the same time they don't seem to be trying to strange you just as quick :D
ps. I'll bet a lot of the lurkers are search engine bots and link checkers from Twitter etc that why page views are into the dozens very quickly..
...but the "Who's online (http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=who)" stats show someone registering....so you have at least one lurker about to join :)

1.My Narrona soft shell trousers. Worth every penny!
2. My boots, I thought I'd be a trail shoes man untill the day I died, untill the Asolo powermatics entered my life!
3. Exped dry bags. Worth their (minimal/non existent) weight in gold. Save so much faffing around in your ruck. I use different colours for different things. So when your tired and its getting dark you can see straight away where your food/sleeping bag/warm kit is and you know its going to be dry! Plus they make awesome pillows.
-
You should only get to name one thing since sometimes you only actually bring 3 ;) ::)

sometimes you just have to make some sacrifices (read forget some stuff!). Don't worry J we'll make a light weight camper out of you yet!
-
I was down at 10kg at the weekend (before I threw a firelog in). Technically thats a record breaker for me!

not 3 item but never mind. What would yo say about your boots?
-
I have had a few pairs of boots in the past but the Meindel's for me are the best yet. They have an excellent fit, very waterproof and for me very durable. I have had mine for about two years and they have survived everything I have done. When I got back from my month away the cleaned up a treat to the point where they look like new.
The boots are quite stiff, I do not mind, but some users may. I would say that they are one of the few items that I would instantly buy again if I damaged them.
I know there are four items but it's a hard choice...
-
I open these links from twitter and get back to them - sometimes days later... so I probably look like a lurker.
3 things - favourite...
Montane featherlite smock instantly comes to mind.
Buff.
Headtorch - rarely used, but I love them. Mainly for reading, the odd late cook or very early start.
-----------------
excluded - baselayers because you get arrested if not wearing something, footwear because I'm in an undecided transitional phase, camera and notebook because they're not really "kit"... like chocolate and port ;)
-
Tent
Fire starting gear/stove

Meindl boots are very good but best suited to wider feet, That's why I went with the Asolo's (better for narrow feet)
