Title: Trekmates Bargains
Post by: suspectmonkey on May 28, 2010
Well as I mentioned in another thread TK Maxx have got some good Trekmates gear in stock at the moment.  So far I've managed to pick up a pair of these "Trigger Lock" walking poles.  They are a 3-piece slimline pole with trigger locks, foam grips, padded hand straps and tungsten tips.  They come with removable rubber end caps and baskets, and tip the scales at <235g.  Bit like a poor-mans Black Diamonds ;)  £9.99 each down from £24.99.

Also got a pair of poles for Kat called "Sherpa".  They have a really comfortable, contoured cork grip and again have padded straps.  Pretty much the same spec as the poles I got but they have anti-shock so are slightly heavier at around 300g each.  £7.99 each down from £19.99.

I also picked up a pair of Rannoch Moor (http://www.trekmates.co.uk/765/Trekmates-Rannoch-Moor-Gaiter.html) gaiters which seem pretty good.  Only other thing I would have liked to have bought was the Trekmates Wind Top (http://www.trekmates.co.uk/973/Trekmates-Wind-Top--Unisex-.html) which is a pretty light (100g) windshirt.  Bangor had one in size large, but it had quite a few plucked threads.  Checked in Belfast but they didn't have large.  I feel a trip to Boucher Road or Newtownabbey coming up :)

Other items of interest include a hammock, mosi nets, Go-System cook set, retro looking Sigg bottle with integrated mug (bit like the Crusader cup and bottle), some self-inflating mats and the bivvy bags that they've had in for a while now.  The hammock could well be on my list next... :)

The Trekmates is excellent (for the price) stuff, recomend the gaitors (light, and waterproof...just remember to keep the spare bit of the underhell strap to the outside until you get a chance to cut it (I didn't and stepped on it and broke the buckle). The bivvy bag I got was excellent for £19) Was in yesterday and saw the hammock....tempted as well :)

Called in yesterday, pity its such a mess, but if you hunt you can find stuff.

Well picked over. Got trekmates walking poles, but not the trigger ones :'( had to pay a few quid extra, sleeping bag liner and inflatable seats/mats plus the other bivi bag. Need one more bivi for other son then we all are sorted.

How much were they charging for the sigg, and what size was it?  Have seen argos doing them as 1l for under a tenner.

Was in TK's in Bow St Mall, Lisburn this afternoon.  Had a hoke about and saw various Trekmates items including:-

walking poles (the sticks I mean),
gaiters,
towels,
sleeping bag liners,
mosquito nets,
collapsible basin-small,
waterproof liners (5 & 10 litre i think),
some tents and
a cuddly toy!

Didn't see any bivvy bags.

I'm avoiding going in to TK Maxx at the moment!  Every time I go in I see something different, but the savings you make are soon out weighed by the sheer amount of gear you end up accumulating ;)

I always thought that was the female ethos to shopping - you buy something not because you need it, but because its in the sale :D

Yeah but I had needed two of which there was only one left, but going the next day I found one more which made my quota.
 ;)
Thankfully I stopped at what we needed rather than buying the shop out. ;D
