Title: Wild Camping in Donegal
Post by: Tonic55 on July 09, 2014
Hi. Planning a wee camping trip to Donegal this weekend. Can anyone recommend any good wild camping spots on the coast - tent only and the ability to light a fire.. beach or forest - anywhere really. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

When you say wild camp, I'm assuming you mean somewhere well away from the roads / habitation.

How about this?

Alternatively, there is a fantastic remote spot at Glenlough near Slievetooey. There are old ruined cottages where you can pitch. It's a long walk in though.

The Bluestacks are well worth exploring too. Loads of wild camp potential up there.

Donegal is somewhere I've never hiked or camped, I'd be interested in any spots you find up there. It's a beautiful part of the island.

Hi all,

I know I'm late to this party, but in case any others are interested, some good camp spots I have used in Donegal.

Muckross head, near Kilcar, camp right down at the cliffs, well know for rock climbing.

Carrickfinn, out past the airport, there is a spot near the beach that looks over towards the shipwreck in Bunbeg.

Opposite Inishmeane Island, on the coast is a few spots, but there can be a few walkers there. No one had issues with us camping though.
