something that I never leave home with out.
Swedish Army firesteel

Product Description
Originally developed by a Swedish arctic survival expert, the Swedish FireSteel® is the best way to light a fire in any weather. The FireSteel® is a magnesium alloy that consists of 7 metals. It will light most ignitable materials, like wood, paper and also kerosene or gas stoves.
Product Benefits
Will light a fire when its wet
One unit will light thousands of fires

Product Features
The Army Model – Lasts approximately 12,000 strikes

How it works
Friction from the striker on the steel will create vcery hot sparks that will ignite tinder

Great little firestarter,

pencil and (waterproof) paper.

After a ten mile hike to go get help you will always forget the grid reference where you left your casualty.
and whoever stayed with that casualty also needs pencil and paper to monitor their vitals.

and when all esle fails you need pencil and paper to write the message to put in the bottle.

Car kit would be a Bowsaw, Billy can, firesteel and a fixed blade knife. You shouldn't need anything else.

For the car kit I would also add a millbank bag or some sort of water filter and rations including a good brew kit as survival is all about a good cup of tea.
For the belt kit I would also add a water filter of some sort and a small brew kit.

waterproof tarp 3x3 or 3x4 is an essential item i wouldnt be without.

use it as a sunshield, rainshield, groundsheet, tent, or just wrap yourself up to keep the wind and rain off.

my pack also contains a hammock,fixedblade knife and firesteel,led headlamp,folding saw,paracord,whistle and a bandage.
