Rain Hats
« on: June 05, 2012 »

Does anyone use a rain hat? I find having a hood up all day very uncomfortable but in the Northern Ireland weather having it rain for an extended period isn't exactly unusual.

Anyone any experience or recommendations?

I've used my north face sun hat on those vertical, drippy days. It gets soaked and flops around my ears, but keeps the drips farther from the face.

I've seen a full-brim Outdoor Research waterproof hat, but otherwise its caps or mountain hats (with the ear covers). Think with any hat like that you'd need to expect a bit of neck leakage, even with a buff-buffer.
