Campsite

Hi all,

Was just wondering if anyone knew any good camp sites in northern ireland or maybe even over the boarder a bit that i could head to for a few days over easter, ideal i'd like:

- cheap  ;D
- nice area + campsite
- within maybe 15mins walk to a good pub with food, entertainment etc
- close to good walking areas or hills for through the day

cheers celt_ginger, i'll have a wee look at it.

i only live around 30mins from larne though so prob looking something a little further afield,

i was thinking maybe:

fermangh somewhere
mournes area
donegal
sligo (i've stayed in strandhill b4, which i loved, right by the sea and couple of pubs 5 mins away) ;D

Kilbroney ticks most of those boxes.

there's a decent spot for a tent at the right hand side looking down on the wee gap between the two fields.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know the craic with camping in Glenarriff forest park? e.g. Definitely not allowed / officially not allowed but tolerated etc.

If you fancy Donegal you could head to melmore head. caravan site there but if you head over to murder hole loads of cracin spots along coast and if elements to much u can use cave . Secluded all the time and tide cuts u off better bringing your beer as pub is a 4 mile walk but the scenary along it is worth it .

If you only live 30 minutes from Larne then you have the whole of the Antrim hills and Glens at your feet.

I have stayed at carnfunock at larne, it was pretty good not sure if it still has a campsite though been a couple of years, i would give curran a miss its not great to be honest, not much to do there unless u like shopping.

I think you'll find that Curren Court has one of the best designed camping areas anywhere in Northern Ireland. The ground is very flat and well drained, it has a mound surrounding the whole of the camping area to deflect the wind, it's a 10 minute walk into the town, it has a very good shop just accross the road and it's quiet. Pretty much everything you'd want in a camp site.

I would agree that the state of the site makes a difference, the facilities for entertainment aren't good unless you are an oldy with no kids as there is nothing at curren to keep kids entertained. As I said and I agree with Ginger the shops are close by though the facilities leave a lot to be desired and certainly not on the same par as Carnfunnock. It is all a matter of what you want to do when you get there. One thing about curren is it's close to roads and pubs so traffic and drunks are something to watch out for.
