Yeah thats my 90 ...  wouldn't drive anything else

I should've addressed the question to Wolf Larsen .. the reason I ask is fishing is a skill that needs to be learned, its not just a matter of buying a rod and reel combo and going out and catching fish.. although when the Mackerel are about its pretty straightforward

All this advice of Beach casters etc ... no good for what he plans to do

As for telescopic rods.. forget about them waste of money

The guys planning on supplementing his diet with fish/shellfish .. not an easy task if he's planning on walking around Ireland .. how much time are you prepared to spend foraging for food ?

Bear in mind that the shellfish are only available on a dropping tide .. which might be at 14:00  or 02:00

I'm an Angler and have been for 20 odd years .. I catch fish.. more that the average angler would ..i have a good knowledge of shore craft , but I wouldn't be 100 percent positive I could feed myself solely from the sea shore

Shellfish like Whelks and muscles  are nice ..but you need a hell of a lot of them for a decent feed..  realistically the only fish you are going to be able to catch are pollock, coalfish and mackerel... you may be able to scrape a flatfish off a shallow surf beach .. but you would need bait for that

Another point is ... you can only catch enough to eat for that session . because theres no way in hell a pollock caught in the morning would be fit for consumption 8 -12 hours later, you have no way of chilling it .. you could try smoking it . but then your going to need to either construct a smoker or carry one .. you wouldn't be in one place long enough to Air dry fish ?

I'm not trying to belittle your plan in any way..I think its a great idea  , but theres a lot of planning  and skills to be learned before its undertaken

Myself and Pablo are kayaking 280 odd miles next year for charity ... we'll be on the water for two weeks ... the planning that has to go into that trip is phenomenal .

I have spoken to Wolf face to face about this venture, and he is very serious about it's undertaking and the complexities of it. He is looking for advice not judgement he is a mature adult not a teenagers or a naieve twenty year old who has watched too much Bear Grylls. Let's give him the advice and understanding to help him on his way. This site seems to be full of knowledge on different subjects which will help him for instance boogaloo you have a lot of shoreline fishing experience couple that with what little I know about Bushcraft and he Will be able to find enough fish, be able to catch it and be able to preserve some for when he needs it. Come on folks let's let loose that good old Irish spirit!

It may take a year or two to acquire the necessary skills , but it'll be worth it I'm sure
