We're heading for our old stomping ground at Donard Wood this Saturday for a few gentle beers round the fire and in my case, to give the hammock a go. I'm not sure if we'll have any sort of culinary theme this time, probably not, I fancy a big rib eye steak with a bottle of red!
As usual, allcomers welcome! We'll just be trotting up from Donard car park but anyone more energetic can come by whatever route they fancy.

If I tried to go away so soon after getting back the wife would kill me.

All packed for after work tomorrow. Complete luxury this time... thermarest, pillow, stove, hipflask, old man pipe :D
Remember the clocks are going forward, so even less sleep!
Red Leader - are you heading home for the 6am race coverage or the repeat? ;)
-
I'm going full lux too - hammock and proper camera with tripod incase it's clear for some astrophotography in the evening.
We'll be recording the F1 and aiming to be home as early as we can - media blackout all the way of course!

Roger, are we bringing firelogs or is there plenty of dead wood handy?
Does anyone need to bring an axe or wa !?
-
I wasn't going to bother with a firelog and just hope there would be enough dead drop wood about. If you could bring an axe it would be handy, saves some effort in the long run.

Hey i'm going to head down too if ya's don't mind. I recently got a DD Hammock and tarp and a new sleeping bag i'd like to try out. Does anyone fancy doing some bushcrafty stuff? like trying to make a bow drill or something.
-
Never worry, we'll improvise.
Cool, but i aint got no axe!
Don't know that we're intending to do anything specifically bushcrafty but we're more than happy to watch you! If you haven't been out before watch for the pirate flag, that'll be us. PM me if you want a mobile number.

I'll head up about 4 or 5 so there's still plenty of sun light to play with.

There's just something about the sound of wood getting chopped, you'll have to give it a go next time.
It was great to meet everyone.

Hannah and I went home about 9pm in the dark with only 1 headtorch, which she insisted on wearing >:( , this made walking the rocky path difficult (she kept looking around while on my shoulders) so we went down the longer but easier granite trail

Some nice pics there Liam, great shot of Newcastle at the end. Looked like you's all had a great time and a brilliant night for it as well
-
Top weekend guys. Was great to meet Eamon and Dave, although I should have known better than to stay up so late, I was completely ruined yesterday.
-
I was a little bit wrecked myself from the late night, but it was a superb camp.
I had great views from the sleeping bag of silvery spears of trees shooting up to glimpses of stars, the blushing pink mist of pre-dawn, and the warm orange of sunrise reaching into the forest.
Added to that, some new gear got christened, the fire was good, and the company was great.
-
Considering the forecast was for no rain I wish I'd not put the tarp up so I could have woken up seeing the treetops. When do you ever see 0% chance of rain in the Mournes :)
