Lamagan
« on: January 04, 2011 »

Hi All,

I used to be a regular poster here, but having started a new job back in June ( which involves weekly travel back and fore to scotland) i haven't been on here for 6 months!

With having just started a new job, being away all week in scotland and getting married I have had little time for getting into the mountains but finally managed it over the xmas break!

Me and the wife! set out yesterday for a little junt up Slieve Lamagan!

It was great to be back in the mournes at last, and what a great day for it!

We set out from carrick little car park around 9am, it was a lovely morning, blue skys with a light wind. We headed up the path, over the wall and followed the track along the edge of annalong forest then up to the saddle between binnan and lamagan.

After a quick mug of tea we proceeded up the steepish slope to the summit of Lamagan and got there about 11.15am. It was a great day on the top with 360 views and clear skys! After a bite of lunch we headed down the far side towards cove and dropped down into annalong valley and back towards the car.

Was a very enjoyable day out and a great start to 2011!

Welcome back Andy. You certainly picked a great day for, I was heading down from Bearnagh around the time you summited Lamagan and could see for miles in every direction. Lamagan is definitly a favourite of mine as well, really feels like you're right in the heart of the mountains.

I like Lamagan myself but I've only ever been on it as part of the Annalong Horseshoe. Would be nice to get up there sometime for a relaxing wander as opposed to a 5 peak slog.
