Title: Safe parking at Trassey?
Post by: Nick on July 13, 2014
Hi all.

A few friends and myself are going wild camping at the sheep pens just up from the Trassey car park next month. We were planning on just leaving the cars at Trassey Car Park and hiking the 400m or so up the hill to the sheep pens, however I recently read some forums posts (albeit from 2009) which mentioned a lot of car crime at the Trassey car park with broken windows and tires being let down. Is this still the case or is it safe to leave the car there overnight? If it's not safe then we are thinking of staying at Meelmore Lodge, however what are the rules there on noise and campfires? We're the sort of people who stay up to the small hours around a fire reminiscing of old times and it'd be a shame if we were told off for doing so.

Thanks!

Just thought I'd post this image to make sure we're all talking about the correct spot, the carpark is the red X. I believe that the Sheep Pens are just up from the blue X? A friend told me about this spot and didn't mention anything about crime but the internet has told me otherwise.

Could you please elaborate on how it isn't safe? Is it car related crime or worse? Will I be safe at the sheep pens just up the path?

I would definitely recommend parking at Meelmore Lodge and paying a few pound for peace of mind, here's a good wild camping spot (orange circle) not far away (15 mins walk?) the green X is is on the sheep pen I think you are referring too (the Cecil Newman carpark is at the end of the lane beside the sheep pen)

I'd certainly stay out of a sheep tick pen.
