A man may not only play many parts in life, but sometimes even his real character undergoes a change and comforms to his surroundings. Some of the handwriting of the greatest people was bad, and it was not their handwriting made them great, but the thoughts and language they used.

As far as I know, you need to get out to deep sea in a boat to have a chance of catching much other than mackerel on the east coast of northern ireland.  All I've ever caught at harbours has been mackerel, my dad did catch a cod and an octopus on a boat off the coast of kilkeel

yeah sea bass is a deep sea fish, you need to go way out to have a chance of cathing one of those suckers! I've been out on a boat fishing off bangor and all I caught was mackrel, pretty big mackrel, and a seal. But thats another story!

You can catch Sea Bass on Downhill beach, especially just after a big storm. there's flounder, dogfish, pollock, rays etc all along the coast.

A beach caster would be a better choice as you sometimes need to cast out a good bit and the beach caster has a bit more belly than a spinning rod. There are lighter versions of the beach caster specifically designed for Bass fishing.
