Hi all,

Been popping in by and reading for a while now and well its a bit rude of me not to join in..

I'm mostly interested in sea kayaking and have been doing this for a few years now. I enjoy both coastal exploring trips, camping trips and mostly playing in the awesome tide races we have around the coast, some of the best and biggest moving water in NI is salty ;D Favorite spot is the Strangford narrows and if there's a wind blowing against the ebb tide I'll be trying to catch a surf at Angus rock or the bar if its not too nuts!

Keep a blog at http://www.johngrant.eu/ about paddling and update it when doing anything a bit different or interesting, been a bit slow on the updates of late.

Do a bit of geocaching too with my wife and have a couple hidden around the place.

Look forward to joining in here and always looking for paddling buddies interested in the more active side of sea kayaking ;)

Never heard of "The Gobbins Path" (Islandmagee nr Larne) before, am thinking it could be worth a visit (but then I watched this def. not an afternoon's toddle).

(a bit of Googleing throws up this image as well

Hi Chuck,

Nice video, hadn't seen that before, kudos to those guys doing it without the bridges and paths :) If you look closely you can see the remains of the tubular bridge in the postcard you linked to here:

I watched a short documentary piece on the Gobbins Path, think it was part of the BBC TV show Coast. They had some excellent pictures and footage from back in the day.

Welcome to the forum, I saw that documentary on the path too. Is it possible to walk on any sections of it now?

Not sure, only seen it from the water, imagine it would require a good mix of skills, sort of thing I would have tried as a kid when i was invincible ;) Near drowned doing something like this when i was 10, stupidly decided to swim a headland after got caught out by the tide while out looking for a hidden smugglers tunnel in case my mum shouted at me for being late for tea!

Not my thing though, can provide more details on tide races if anyone's interested :)
