Hello everyone!

Long time reader... first time poster here  :D

A few of us are planning to walk the seven sevens route next month but have decided to break it up over 2 days.

Just wondering if any of you can recommend somewhere approx half way or there abouts that we could pitch a couple of tents for the night.

Any help would be great!

what route are you planning?

for a summit i'd think Bearnagh is hard to beat, plenty of shelter if needed at the north tor

and if its too windy hares gap is close by and of course your'e never too far from meelmore lodge then if things get bad (some people have been known to abandon camp and bivvy in their toilet block  :o )

Thanks for the replies!

Havent finalised a route yet so some recommedations for that would also be welcome!

This is our first time to do it and that is why we are taking our time and doing it over the 2 days. We would be used to walking in Wicklow and the Reeks but the Mournes would be unchartered territory for most of us!

AS, just remember to keep the fact that one of the 7s is a 6 secret!

One of the forum members summit camped on each of the 7s so you may find the thread of interest.

The Reeks look a pleasure to walk on and are on my list, very little of what I have heard about the Wicklows entices me there though.  Perhaps people generalise a bit too much though.

Bearnagh is great, Commedagh has a nice flat area for a tent. Basically you can camp on them all though.

Lamagan isn't good (no wall for shelter) and it all boils down to what direction the wind is coming from, some places have vast flat areas but its too windy to use them (happened to me on commedagh  :'( ) so make sure you have a plan B spot

another nice spot but well off your route is between Tornamrock and Pigeon Rock, the junction of the Rowan and Rocky rivers is well sheltered and of course you'll have plenty of water at your disposal
