Hi all...
It looks like Ni Wild will at some stage be going outside climbing with Rock & Ride... but for some, to go staight outside to climb can be a little daunting. This is just my thought... there are enough of us on the forum that have enough experience to belay, lead etc.. would anyone be interested in taking a Sunday to assist/gain experience at the Hot rock in Tollymore as a prelude to going outside? Its a brilliant opportunity to meet before venturing outside, and for some its (nearly) on our doorstep.
I know the majority will rule on the date if anyone is interested in doing this, but the only date im not available is Sunday 6th May.
LandyLiam has suggested that we may also tie climbing with doing a little archery or a wee hike up Lukes mountain?
Id be happy to spend the day at the wall though
-
I could be up for some wall time this sunday???

-

-
I'll check my diary when I get home :)
-
Next Sunday might be good for me.
-
I rung them today and I've noted a few bits of information.
Weekly scheme (NOT RUNNING OVER EASTER):
Tuesday evenings
Instructor teaches free from 7pm to 9pm
Wall closes at 10pm
£5 entry
£5 for gear hire
Easter scheme (7/4/12 - 14/4/12):
Instructed lessons
Everyday day 2pm to 4:30pm
£15 for everything (gear hire + entry)
I'm thinking of having a go next week sometime if anyone is interested?
-
I have 3 spare harnesses (and may be able to lay my hands on more) so that should save some people an extra fiver, you can get away with ordinary trainers and i have a few belay devices too. I'm working next week but sundays usually suit me.
-
Well, I'm free pretty much all of next week apart from Saturday (IIRC). So should be free to go whenever.
Might take a quick go for £15 to see how I fare outside of the eyes of NIWild. ;D
-
Great! so Sunday the 15th it is then? :)
-
Not unless something comes up between now and then, then yes. What time at though?

Me too!
-
Looking forward to it all. :)
-
And me!
-
Just bumping to see if anyone else is interested.
I got a little more definitive information. Gear hire is actually £3.50, which includes - shoes, harness and belay. I'm pretty sure that you can hire this gear individually as well.
Is there any one going from NI-Wild with previous climbing experience?
-
I'm starting from scratch!
-
I have none. Apart from twice at Todd's Leap and their climbing wall, and I can assure you, whatever I learned that day, I have forgotten. ;D

I'm no expert, but I do climb every week, so im confident enough i'll not drop anyone ;D
Has anybody have a time in mind yet? lunch time'ish would be good for me, but i'll go with the flow.
I started to make the raspberry ruffles for Sunday ... that should keep everyones sugar levels up :D
do try to eat a few banana before you go, they reduce latic acid and stops your hands from getting so sweaty, i'll take my chalk bag with me anyway :)
-
How much is it for entry?
Btw I can belay..
-
£5 entry I believe. Shouldn't come to any more than £10 in total. Could always ring to double check my calculations I suppose.

You're right £5 entry or £3.50 if your MI member... does anyone fancy a wee drink after? Maghera Inn? Maginns?

Whatever time really. I'm currently about 10 minutes up the road, so could be there anytime. Though it's sounding like noon time for everyone is sounding best, so I'll come along at that time too.
AnnieAnne, I'll drop my number into your inbox in case you arrive, and haven't a clue who I am.
Also, to everyone, is it possible if I bring my girlfriend along, as she wants to have a crack at it too?

Anne, do you not have any other advice for everyone!!?!
I have some experience too. Well enough not to drop anyone either!

HA! Do you think its worth putting out there?!?? well... i thought it a pretty useful bit of information ;)

The more the merrier Pudd! :) I would advise to hire the equipment, the rock shoes will give you a better grip than gutties
-
I'm pretty sure I'll do that to be honest. :)
Was watching videos on how to Belay last night. So at least have some foundation to work on.
-
So, how does 1:30 suit everyone?
-
1.30pm sounds good, time to get a big sunday dinner in me before i go, bananas of course ;D
-
See you all then :)
-
Thanks to all who went climbing today. Needed a nice relaxed session to get my head straight again. And a special thanks to Anne for the raspberry ruffles and Hannah for the flying saucers :)

Couldn't agree more :)
I also would like to thank Sinead, Anne, Liam, Hannah and Paul for a great day!
Cannot wait to go again!
Sinead; I hope you got to Sainsburys in time! ;)
Oh and Anne...Could you give me the recipe, to those delicious ruffles! So much better than the shop bought ones!
Thanks again everyone. Take care!
;D

Great wee day! we should maybe think about making it a monthly/bi-monthly thing? apart from that i'll use any excuse to go, so if anyone is free on Sundays, give me a shout and ill go :D
lisa i'll forward you on the details :)
Samm... did you get anything nice?? :)
-
Great wee day! we should maybe think about making it a monthly/bi-monthly thing?
I was thinking the same thing after I left. I know my diary is quite full, but I could do Sunday 13th or 27th May. Does that suit anyone else?
Samm... did you get anything nice?? :)
I'm fairly sure nobody needs to know the contents of my weekly shop! Suffice to say I won't starve this week!!
-
i can't think that far ahead !
-
Definitely had a great day guys. So thank you for that. Was nice to finally put a face to a name AnnieAnne and Samm.
Also, thanks all for teaching Lisa and I the basics. :) I definitely won't forget them in a hurry. I'm thinking of going again tomorrow night as I'm pretty sure it'll be a while before I'm able to again!
But to AnnieAnne's comment about going monthly/bimonthly. I'm all up for that, just as long as it falls into place with my schedule and if I have the money (we all know I'm going to buy a harness and shoes next time I get paid :P) then, it's a yes from me!
