Title: Suggestions for gathering more members
Post by: admin on August 27, 2009
We're passed the 100 member mark with over 2500 posts which is brilliant - now we need more!

Please post any ideas you have on how to get the word out to new people.

If its free your after then all you have to to is join there forums and post a link.

Also It might be worth while to have a link to a downloadable forum logo that people involved in avents (The MMM for example) could print of and attach to themselves will competing.

I start back at UUC in two weeks, they have a great sports club, with surfers, sailing, kayak/canoe etc.  Jordanstown has aload too including climbers as far as i remember.  Does anyone know what Queens does??

Why not get a few fliers drawn up and i will bung a few around uni - just a handful, see how that goes??

i found the site by following a link at the bottom of a post on another forum.

car stickers are an idea as well as theyre cheap and people notice them.

also the fact thats its an n.i site made it more real to me ,meaning i could go to the places mentioned on the forum and also take part in activities which didnt involve a flight or boat journey to the mainland.

also,if your out and about walking of whatever , mention the site to people too.any time i see someone out on a sit on top kayak i tell em about kayakanglingireland.com lol , even got a wee plug in there myself  :D

You need to get some flyers or cards sorted out mate. You missed a very good oportunity when we did the event at the autumfest in Carnfunnock. We had an audience of 100 plus if we had given out flyers or cards you could have had at least another 50 members. I have a link on our website to ni wild and when we are running other events we will plug this site but it would be good to have some cards or at least a poster to advertise.

So whats the latest on Flyers or posters?

What about Radio Ulster... Your place and Mine. They are often looking interesting local events activities etc. Maybe worth giving them a ring to chat about forum and events that have taken place.

We did a piece on Geocaching last year, got people interested.

Yeah, it all fell by the wayside. My complete lack of artistic abilities holds it all back a bit :)
Is still on the cards though.

we could raise some money for charity - by doing an outdoor thing - and get a bit of PR from the papers that way....

we could raise some money for charity

We could always setup an Air Ambulance "charity".  That way we could raise £750k or so then all disappear to the Himalayas for a while :D :P

Can we get some linkage from the iPlod site?
Target the contact person of the numerous NI walking/rambling clubs with an email. If they don't have web sites, a fair number have newsletters that go out before each walk they do (including the lunch menu on the back....it's all very civilised..). Also try offering the club a hosted forum a lot of them are non-techy.

My head of department's father is the organiser for this event along with the Ballywalter one.

With the talk of the iPlod (and IMHO mentaltons running 50km in the dark/rain) and the talk of flyers (and the excessive work involved with them) I just had a brain fart using the first images I came across.....perhaps the call to action is a bit too subtle.

Possible uses:

ps. domain names are one of my 'things' this domain name should really be registered without the hyphen..and in .com as well, to stop some nasty typosquatter causing problems with people trying to find this site.

Cheers for the suggestions all. We'll have to get some of them into practice so we can swell our numbers!
