Backwoods Survival School
« on: April 05, 2010 »

The Guys from the NIBA had a great time over the weekend of the 26 - 28th of March at Backwoods Survival School in Scotland. Patrick, ably assisted by Mark and George, impressed us with their knowledge and their hospitality on the Backwoodsman Course. I can safely say that it was one of the best courses that any of us have attended, and that includes Woodlore and Woodsmoke courses. It was an event packed weekend and I would heartily recommend it to anyone.
Here's a few pictures.

Lunch on Saturday

Cooking the fish

Accomodation on saturday night. Natural shelters that we had to build ourselves

Bow drill practice

Evening meal of duck, rabbit, and hare

River Crossing

I have done a few course's with Patrick my-self, he is one of the best outdoor instructors I have ever meet, Looks like you had a great time, although when I done the river crossing it was a bit deeper, also the other instructor showed us how to get down a very steep incline by using a technique called the South African abseil, great fun but also very useful.

You will enjoy that one, as long as you like to eat fish you will be alright :D, I found Patrick to be a top class instructor, I have been on a few course's around the British Isle's and he is the best I have met yet, I started over here with Wild-live which was alright but Patrick made their course's seem like kinder-garden.

Same here. Started with Woodlore, then tried Wild-Live for a few, but definately, Backwoods was the best.
