Title: Dundrum Bay - Murlough Side!!
Post by: WildWesty on April 30, 2012
Was down in Dundrum bay all weekend and I have to say its fishing very well. Looks like the trout are here early this year as over two days I caught 13! My biggest was about a pound in weight and it went very well with my dinner on Saturday night.

Just thought id let you guys know encase any of you guys have been thinking about giving it a go! I was just using a small spinner as im useless at fly fishing but  a few guys I seen fly fishing seemed to be doing very well also.

Where abouts in the bay were you...?

What spinners were you using..?

Tide flood or ebb...?

Wanting to have a bang at this myself, but not sure where and when is best...?

I was fishing just under the bridge close to the Murlough car park (Newcastle end)

I don’t know what you call the spinners exactly I just asked for the smallest ones! :) The girl in the fourseasons tackle shop in Newcastle is a great help and will sort you out! If you can fly fish I would recommend instead!

Honestly I fished the river all day and was just as successful at low tide and high - there are a lot of wee ones but great crack.

I was up fishing YESTERDAY and caught 5 within about 2 hours!! (All returned to the water)

Good luck.

Went up to Dundrum Bay on Saturday and fished two spots with no luck...
Still not sure where you are talking about Westy...?

First place was the large stone bridge with 3 arches that splits the bay in two and leads to the NT place...

Then I went to Carrigs river, right at the top of the bay, parked at the side of the road, right on the blue iron painted bridge...

Loads of small trout breaking for flys there, but nothing on the size 0 mepps spinner and after loosing 3 spinners in about 30mins and watching a kid catch some tiddler brown trout on a fly I gave up and went home...

As far as I can tell, no permits are needed for fishing UK shores at all except for trout/salmon.  It's only the inland areas that require licenses, area-wise.

Why we ever allowed the government to require licenses for fishing anywhere, I don't know, but that's another story.
