HH warm are normally around £40 each I think - they are in Tiso anyway (although we had sold out last weekend).  I've had the leggings for 5 years and they are mighty as MikeD says - I often use mine in my summer sleeping bag to use it in spring and autumn.

MikeD has another very good point about second hand stuff... can often be gotten for half price.  Some of those high-end jackets are good as new even after 5-7 years if they aren't abused, and kept clean/reproofed regularly.

As most of the guys have already said if your thinking of a hard shell I'd get a marmot precip jacket, imo you'll not do much better for a waterproof at that price! Also don't forget that if your planning on being out in wet weather you still have legs! Not so nice if you get them wet, I'd have a look at the berghaus deluge pants £45 in cotswold and their actually pretty decent pieces of kit.
I would on the other hand spend a bit extra on the boots. You can get good quality boots for around £100 which may seem steep at the min but if looked after properly, they'll last a long time. So if you got 5 years out of them your only looking at £20a year compared to £40 odd every 6months.
