Hello,
Just a quick post to say hello.
I live in Co. Down and work in Belfast. My main outdoor pastimes are canoeing and skiing. Not much oportunity for the latter here but over the years I have skied a fair bit in the Mournes. I spent many years working in the Alps and the Rockies but am settled back home now.
I have a canadian canoe and spend as much of the summer as possible paddling and camping in and around Upper Lough Erne. Despite having paddled for years I still consider myself a novice and stick to flat water. I get my adrenaline rush on the snow  and my relaxation on the water  ;D

Hello hello!! Welcome to the forum!! I really need some "bum in boat time" as far as canoes goes.  Lough Erne is beautiful and a great place to paddle - at this rate of going we will be needing a ni-wild paddle day!!

Welcome Neil, always great to see another paddler. I can't imagine where you can ski in the Mournes though.

Michelle, an NI-Wild paddle day sounds like a fine plan!!

Good to have you hear mate,
It's one of my dreams to have a canoe trip in ethier Canada or Sweden and I would like to have a go at paddling Lough Erne.

Havn't skied much in the Mournes in recent years but as a teenager any weekend when there was some snow we would have been up there. Mostly it involved a lot more walking up than skiing down but still good fun.

Its not the sort of thing I would recomend unless you've skied a fair bit off piste to be honest.  Skiing on a groomed run and skiing in the mournes are not really to be compared  :o - you also need a pair of skis you don't care about - they get trashed.
