Cairn Sunday - Annual Walk every July

Originally this was a pilgrimage to the top of the mountains to worship and be nearer to the god or gods. Now it is an opportunity to meet friends old and new. There are three routes which you can choose from. Route A starts just north of the Ulster History Park and is mostly a tarmac route with a steep climb at the end. Route B starts in Glenmacoffer and is a mixture of rough terrain with some tarmac, together with a few steep climbs. Route C starts just to the north of Mountfield and contains both rough heather terrain and tarmac, like route B it contains some steep climbs. At the end of the walks refreshments and live music is provided.

Gortin itself has a Plethora of pubs and inns to rest the weary walker...Good food, great craic and always the best company. Gortin Glen Forest Park is nearby and is of particular interest to bird watchers and people with a genuine interest in the environment and nature. Where better to unwind and escape than in the quaint village full of character in an untouched part of Ireland?

Cost: voluntary donations welcome
