As in you want to turn up and use their weapons?

Depends what your after... Clay Pigeon, Pistol or rifle? They're a strange breed in gun clubs and it's very much a case of someone vouching for you to get in and get membership (at least any I've been to). Your best bet is to find an active gun club member and get them to bring you along. Alternatively if your on holiday in places like Prague for a relatively small amount you can go shoot AK's and all sorts of militarised weapons till your hearts content without all the boredom and rigmarole of the gun club circuit here.

That was the general idea. Don't want to start shooting 5.56 or 50 cals but was thinking along the lines of .22 or even air rifles.

I know the gun clubs are a tight knit group Rusty but was hopiung someone here had there foot in the door??

Forgot to say you can make the process alot easier by starting your training at home. If you go onto YouTube and type in Firearms Safety rules etc you can get a feel for the safety basics whilst waiting to get to a club. Thete's also a wealth of books etc. If you learn the basic safety rules first and get confident with them you'll enjoy the shooting alot more.

I know a few guys on the gun club circuit... I'll ask them what's the best way for a new start.

Thanks for the heads up, I have previous experience with different types of fire arms ranging from Air Pistols & Rifles all the way to 5.56 rifles. Safety should not be a problem.

Any of the clubs I am in do not allow non-members to just turn up and use their firearms. Even with a member accompanying them there are some strict rules in place. I supposed there rather has to be for all sorts of reasons. You can openly tour the clubs as person interested in joining but again the very nature of these types of venues mean that there is normally a two to three year waiting list to join. However, once you are a member you can borrow the club weapons for use at the ranges. Fees typically start at £100 pounds building and maintenance cost and a first year's membership of £100. Over time, these tend to fall with the second year costing anything from £75-50. Some clubs charge a £2 pound fee per night onto of the general costs to cover the price of targets.

Matt (what happened to the name?) I really want to sit down and talk to you more about this. Any chance we could meet some time so you could guide me in the right direction?

I presume the Mourne way name and never doing it again. Well I just thought it was taking up too much space in posts so decided to sort it out.
I will have a chat to you about applying to join any time.
