A World War II mortar has been made safe after being found in the Mourne Mountains in County Down.

Police in Downpatrick were contacted at about 1930 BST on Sunday that an object had been found at Sleivelamagan Close in the Mournes.

Officers went to the scene and then called in Army bomb disposal experts.

The mortar bomb was made safe on Tuesday afternoon.

here's something i found yesterday in the annalong valley which i'm guessing is part of an old ww2 bomb

the burnt gorse definitely makes finding these easier, in fact it may be worth spending a day up there doing just this
