I have a wildlife hatchet but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet (and I bought it about 3 years ago)

As much as I love the idea of it, every time I pack a bag for an overnighter I tend to leave it out as it's a little heavy for my lightweight mindset...

I think if I use the hammock more and spend more time in the woods I could get some real good use out of it.

The rest of your gear looks great - very tactical / discreet - that people might just walk by you without noticing you!

If this is your first one your going to feel like a caveman with a zippo, I've had a couple over the past few years and they just simply perform each and every time, the blades cost buttons to replace and the speed they cut at is outstanding.

I'd second Rich.H's comment.

The Bahco Laplander is a great tool.
That, along with your Gransfors axe and a knife, and you'll be all set.

There's little that cannot be accomplished in the woods with these three tools.
Of course you can do it all with just a knife, and I would encourage you at some stage to try this, but once you get practiced in using all three, you'll be able to knock up a shelter, pot hangers, kindling etc.  really quickly.

Im gona guess you ditc the handle? I once took a bow saw like that and nevet again. Heavy big and a royal pain in the hole. Instead i either take a wooden folding handle bow, or if desperate about the weight then just the saw blade and make a bow.

Weight doesn't bother me much. If I'm camping in a forest the ascent prob won't be stellar. Just tie it on to the outside of my pack.

I was on a NIbushcraft course with Andy and Paul, to great lads that would give Ray Mears a run for his money. I have an EnZo trapper knife (fixed blade), Granfors outdoor axe, laplander folding saw, swiss army knife. Im going on more Bushcraft courses and i also plan to practice everything ive learn as often as possible so if i have the right tools it will help me alot. I found a good picture on the net of tools that would be great to practice with in a forest building fire shelter ETC, My EnZo handle is slightly different and my Gransfors is an outdoor axe but the folding saw and swiss army are the same.

Im also getting together old flints ETC to try all types of tinder (you can see on my other topic Hudsons Bay Tabocco tin fire kit)
