hea guys can any of yas recommend a company that runs mountain skills 1 course!!!! or if any of yas have done a similer course, let me know if its worth doing!!!!  could i learn the skills i need, by reading books and spending time on the hills???

I was thinking of getting a few books about navigation and mountain skills from cicerone

They have very qualified instructors write books about all sorts of things, just the same info (i'd imagine) you'd get on a basic course, but they only cost £10.

I read the google preview of the map and compass book, and picked up loads of stuff I'd never even thought of !

So, I'm gonna collect these books up, information is power !

hey allyc - activities ireland is doing a course this sun in the mournes at £45.00. i believe sat is fully booked. there is a link on walkni website. i was thinking about it too. even if it is just the basics to find ur way out of trouble.

thats the first i have heard of that company, ill def book a day with them and take it from there, it will probably be the 3rd or 4th of july, cuz i am busy this sunday, if ya do go binladen (im sure you would no ur way around the hills  ;D)  let me no how it goes.... thanks 4 the info !!!!
