hea guys can any of yas recommend a company that runs mountain skills 1 course!!!! or if any of yas have done a similer course, let me know if its worth doing!!!! could i learn the skills i need, by reading books and spending time on the hills???

I think you can do it through the centre at Tollymore

I was thinking of getting a few books about navigation and mountain skills from cicerone
http://www.cicerone.co.uk/
They have very qualified instructors write books about all sorts of things, just the same info (i'd imagine) you'd get on a basic course, but they only cost £10.
I read the google preview of the map and compass book, and picked up loads of stuff I'd never even thought of !
So, I'm gonna collect these books up, information is power !

Cheers paul and mike for getting in touch. think ill try that myself mike, there is plenty of books to pick from, and if that fails ill give tollymore a shout!!!
