Title: Inflatable Kayak's/Canoe's are they any good?
Post by: FlapJack on April 01, 2012
Has anyone got an experience with inflatable kayak's or Canoe's they can share?

Can really compare to the real deal?

It depends what you want to use it for.
River running would be a no, paddling along a lake or beach then yes ideal.

I would say depends on the inflatable. Lidl special, no, but the alpaca rafts (http://www.alpackaraft.com/) are designed for rivers and are supposedly very tiresome to paddle on lakes as they have no keel. People are running them on quite big rapids (people with experience). They're all the rage in the outdoor blogosphere for wilderness adventuring! You'd expect them to be good though for the price  :o

Wow you can buy a Canadian for that kind of cash, but they do look the business.

Decathlon sell a Sevylor inflatable, it's a good boat with a wee keel and everything - ideal for flatwater paddling.  My in-laws have one and they've done a fair bit on the lower Bann and some paddling on lough Erne.

plus it packs up into a bag.

I've had a go in one of these
http://www.amazon.co.uk/INTEX-CHALLENGER-KAYAK-INFLATABLE-CANOE/dp/B009QNWTVU/ref=sr_1_1?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1367593235&sr=1-1&keywords=intex+k1

And it was good fun (read the reviews). As long as you realise they have limitations, they can be an easy to carry alternative for occasional fun, I reckon.

Nice link FairWeather... hadn't seen that one before. I'd been considering one of the cheaper 1-man intex inflatables for micro-adventures, but that might be worth the extra spends.
Depends on the weight...  ::)
