The Trostan section as I though is pretty wet but if you pick your route you can stay quite dry and clean. took a short walk up today in the snow, seem well marked out for an open land route. I only got half way up as a friend got called into work. Who all is down for this walk then? also who fancies just day one, just day two or just the camp?
Alright craigy, whorya and myself are in for the whole thing, the two day hike and camp, we'l thats the plan anyway  :D

Nice one. I'm sure this plan will come together. once I get numbers I'll phone around a few taxis in Ballycastle to bring us round.

Craigy I don't think that will be necessary, between Rumblebum and me we'll leave a car in Waterfoot and drive on up to Ballycastle for the start.    If we need two cars in Waterfoot then we can bring any others up with us also.

Yea I guess that would work pretty well. I'm just used to only having one car on a walk I think. I'm not fussy where I leave my car, start or finish. If anyone needs directions to anywhere give me a shout.

Wolf you mean ballycastle....would add a few miles on starting in newcastle...
Driving directions to Ballycastle, Moyle, UK   3D

Newtownabbey
UK

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto B90/Ballyhenry Rd
0.7 mi
At the roundabout, take the 5th exit onto the M2 ramp to Antrim/Londonderry/Coleraine
0.6 mi
 Merge onto M2
10.8 mi
At junction 1, take the A26 exit to Antrim/Ballymena/Coleraine
0.2 mi
At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Lisnevenagh Rd/A26
7.1 mi
At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A26
1.0 mi
Continue onto M2
4.9 mi
Continue onto A26
0.2 mi
Slight left onto Crankill Rd/A26 Continue to follow A26
8.3 mi
Turn right onto Drones Rd/A44 Continue to follow A44
13.3 mi
Turn right onto Moyarget Rd/A44 Continue to follow A44
1.6 mi
Turn left onto Market St/A2
0.2 mi
Ballycastle, Moyle
UK

If we all meet in Ballycastle and then see how many cars we need to go to Waterfoot would that work? Means I can leave anyone back to waterfoot to get their cars and other can just head on home? I might be able to get us more secure parking in Ballycastle...

Done the Moyle several times you can do it all in 10 painful and very soggy hours

Have you got a camp site picked there is some good pitches here under Breen Wood http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=BC665191-EA15-2393-6D899261EB2D59C1&success=1

The top of Slieveanora is not bad, but exposed

On the way up/down Slieveanora there is a wee copse of trees here http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=BC68F508-E5AC-7803-004ADF7BD8CB877D&success=1 which might be servicable

If you choose to walk the road between Slieveanora and Croaghan rather than down behind breen forest  there is a car paark here http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=BC6B7D39-B8DF-E55E-05B1ABE5778F4FD4&success=1 and behind it there is a good flat dry heathery space

I would suggest you do Waterfoot -> Ballycastle and get the big up and downly bits done first.

Alternately .. if you are doing Ballycastle->Waterfoot then Summit Knocklayde and the come down into Breen and take the alternate route up Croaghan and down the road to Slieveanora.  This makes the break at the base of Croagan a good spot and adds only 4 miles and gives you 2 more summits in Antrim on the log

Oh and not problems using the piccies back in the thread :-) glad they helped.

Another thing from earlier in the thread. you do not have to walk the road to the Waterfoot to the start of the Glenariff Park. You can walk up the river on a path (no problem with right of way.. you come out about 1.5km before the lower entrance to the park itself. The start is here http://www.walkjogrun.net/routes/current_route.cfm?rid=BC7A7351-C242-7B88-AA07D3363D4F2F3D&success=1 and is way marked.

The waymarkers are a bit sporadic on the high ground, particularly between Trostan and Sleiveanora.

As of January there are no Rights of Way issues that I am aware of, but when you get to bridge near MacQuillan's Grave under Breen wood, keep to the track, the land owner has duck ponds and shooting rights , there are 100's of ducks all over the place which is a little off putting when they all stop and look at you.

The best view is from Knocklayde if you get a good day.

Keep you eye open for the weird chair  and the weird Toilet half way up Trostan
