I'm all but 100% on this. Will confirm for definite next week. I'm looking at maybe making a multi day trip out of it, dropping off my contribution (probably a bottle of Jura single malt and some christmas cake bars) then tooling around the mournes for a day or two before joining everyone for the christmas dinner. After a few days of eating dehydrated ready meals the christmas dinner will be like manna from heaven

I don't know any of you guys and it looks like this is a kind of annual reunion? I've never camped out in winter because it just seems so pointless with 16 hrs darkness unless for something like this. Do newbies fit in and whats the routine - presumably u'd set camp afternoon, any organisation to this, what time does feasting start? I can cook and bake but not sure if weekend before Christmas is good. C.

Hi sandman, this proves to be the only thing I can get to each year. Last year was my first outing and I had the same thoughts as you, but everybody was really welcoming, chatty and a good laugh. I arrived when it was already pitch black, put up my gelert solo between the trees and mooched over for a chat. Asides from them being a really friendly mob, there was a great big fire to keep warm around with logs and large stones for seats and even festive lighting- dancing is optional.

Update!
Much as mulled wine is an integral part of any Christmas dinner, it's probably not as important as say, potatoes ;) We're running the risk of ending up with lots of mulled wine and Christmas non-food stuff but without actually having a complete meal. If a few people could club together to make a bit of mulled wine and everyone else looks at the food list it would be much appreciated.

We really need food > mull > non-food (discounting LandyLiam who has awesome Christmas lights)
If anyone's worried about the extra weight that food can be for these sorts of numbers then just post in the thread and we'll make sure someone helps you carry stuff up.

Update 2!
If anyone's wary about this being their first outing, don't be worrying. You can expect a warm welcome and everyone has been in the same boat at some stage. However, it is going to be winter (Sunday 21st Dec is the official start of winter) and whilst the last few years have been mild and dry, there are no guarantees. I wouldn't recommend anyone comes that hasn't camped in winter before or that doesn't have proper winter gear! If you are experienced with winter camping and have sufficient gear to ensure you can stay warm and dry in all conditions then plough on up, it'll be great.

Also!
We're going to shake things up this year and have a few competitions with prizes, more details to follow.

Finally!
One of those prizes may or may not be for the most awesome Xmas hat, you'll get loads of fun ones on Ebay or Amazon at a low price.

It's probably going to be about 7ish.  You know what it's like.  By the time everybody arrives and sets up camp then gets their grub warmed through at the fire it could be any time from 7pm till midnight lol.

Say, 7pm at the earliest and 9pm at the latest.

Grand, the reason I ask is that I'm aiming to be there for about 2030, and if it was from then onwards I could bring something food wise?

I just went into the properties of the photo of my dinner last year and it was being served at 21:02 so you'll be grand.  Landy arrived up late and still got a feed at 21:33  :D
