Title: Slieve Bearnagh Winter Wild Camp
Post by: Heggs on February 19, 2018
Hi Guys, managed to get out this weekend! Graeme (whoRya) led the way and we camped on Bearnagh. It was a really calm clear night and pretty chilly but we had gorgeous views of Castlewellan and the surrounding area. We got punished the next morning though, a windy, wet and foggy walk to the car. Enjoyed every minute of it!

Great photies mate you were really lucky with the weather on Saturday it was a cracker of a day/night, just a pity it didn't hold out though Sunday it would have been class to wake up to nice clear views.

Thanks Glenn, it was a great night, we could see for miles. I'm glad we were waking up to bad weather rather than setting up in it though. Hope you guys get a good spell this weekend coming!

Cheers for putting the pics up bud.  I didn't really get many.  Top night it was, the company was appreciated.  A good test for the new tent Heggs.  Mine certainly is showing a lot more flex in the wind.

We got a nice bit of protection on the other side of the wall away from the wind.  The wind chill was fairly noticeable.  And boy did it take a fair bit of effort to get the pegs to go into the frozen ground.  That's the trade off for a sky full of stars.  Well that and being cold even in the sleeping bag  ;D  I actually got up at about 5am to put my map under my sleep mat in a vain attempt to increase the insulation below me!

Have a good one, anyone that has plans for next weekend.

Fantastic pics guys, looks like you had a top night. Though I can't think who has enough energy to carry that big camp chair all the way to the top of a mountain. Last time I camped on Bearnagh I think I binned a 9" square sit mat to save the weight :P

What sort of tent is that Heggs, looks very similar to a North Face Tadpole, a tent I've really wanted for years but they stopped making them.

Yeah that was my chair  ;D
It packs far smaller than it looks and actually performed pretty well. I only brought it because a fire log was on the cards and it proved to be a nice wee addition.

The tent is a Salewa Litetrek 1 from Tiso:

No probs Graeme, it was a great trip. The tent held up really well. Handled the wind and rain nicely, I'm looking forward to getting out in it again!
A firelog is definitely on the list for my next camp too
