I had completely forgotten that I had submitted a photo to a Mountaineering Ireland competition until I received the email today;
"Seán
Thank you for submitting the attached photo for Mountaineering Ireland’s ‘What’s your view?’ competition.
I’m very pleased to say that this image has been selected as one of four photos to be included in the ‘What’s your view’ piece in the spring issue of the Irish Mountain Log.
We are going to print the four selected photos along with c.50 words from each photographer about what qualities make that view special.
In addition to being impressed by the quality of your photo, we also liked the words you provided to accompany the image. Could you review what’s below and confirm if you’re happy for the words below to be included with your name and photo in the Irish Mountain Log? If you want to adjust the text that’s fine, it’s also OK if you go a bit over the 50 words.
This really is a beautiful shot, well done.
Regards
Helen."
The photo in question is this one;

And the wording that will be printed with it;
“Any view from my tent on a Mournes’ summit would be my favourite. This example from Doan summit, overlooking Silent Valley Reservoir, March 2017. When I get up onto the summits for a night the stresses of life are gone. It is my reset switch and that is what makes the views my favourite.”
That was a little good news for the weekend. I am looking forward to seeing the other three photos also.

Awesome Sean, well done!

Nice capture of what it is all about. Well done.

Well done mate, nice photo. I'm considering a Doan camp again soon myself and I think your pic just confirms what a great wee spot it is.
-
Cheers Guys.
Yeah, Doan is some spot for camping. I love the hike in from Ott carpark too.
-
Brilliant, well done!
-
nice one!, camping at the flat white bit at the bottom of doan a few times. thats where i found out that sufficient insulation from the ground really helps.
-
Yeah, in the winter time especially, when the ground is frozen. You need to be well off it.
I use a Thermarest Prolite. It's not the deepest most comfortable mat available but it's enough to keep me off the ground and snug and it's only 300 grams.

The magazine was published last week;
