Went for a dander last Tuesday in the rain. I learnt that I really need to waterproof my coat! Was soaked through.

Started in Tollymore at about 4pm. Saw a Great-spotted Woodpecker here, only the second one I've ever seen in NI. Also a family of Willow Warblers here, young just fledged.

Went up the track at the back of Tollymore to the old abandoned house. I then followed the stream on the eastern slope of Luke's Mountain up towards Slievenaglogh. The stream is in a nice wee gully, reasonably well-wooded here; as is the lower slope to the west. Lots of Rowan saplings. There would definitely be space for a single tent at a number of spots here and bivvying would be good.





Got up to Slievenaglogh summit and the weather was desperate. Wall looked like this...


Followed the wall past the castles and up to the summit of Commedagh.




Then down to the Donard saddle where I met three guys heading up to try to salvage the Jubilee beacon, which they hoped might have been left there the night before. Went down to Donard Wood across to Tollymore and back to car for ten past eight.

Enjoyed it despite the rain.

Nice to see some of the upper section of the Sprinkwee river,as for the mist,it's like that a lot up there,nice photo's  ;D

This ain't the Spinkwee it's the wee un-named stream further to the west on the east slope of Luke's Mountain. Nice though!
