Hey!  Yes I will be up for improving my bush craft skills!  Well, when I say improving...more like gaining!  Can't say I'm much good other than the old Girl Guide stuff  :)  Will be nice to have some female company on a NIW outing!

Ok Folks, getting a good response so far the list is as follows if you want to go add your name,

19th June 2011
cerbera147

10th July 2011
Grace
Oisin
Suspectmonkey
Kat
Shamara
cerbera147
Paul72

I'm up for both dates; being local and all that  ;D  If the numbers warrant two dates of course  :)

To save cash you can park in the car park outside Carnfunnock and walk up  ;D That's what I'll be doing  ;)

Firemaking will be great but not just from scratch. I'd like to learn how to start a fire with firesteel. I can never get it going  :-\  Using hand sanitiser or Vaseline soaked cotton balls is a bit like cheating.

Knowing what is good tinder and the different burning properties of different wood would be useful.

Fantastic idea thanks for organising! Heading on a canoe trip around Varmland on the 21st so thisll be great experience!
Would also love to know burning properties of different woods and maybe some simple pot hangers or camp crafts? Want to carve a kuksa before I head off so if anyone has any experience with this gimmie a shout!

Thanks again Greyfox, really looking forward to it!

Hi folks great to see so many names, I'm up for both dates no problem. Just back from the bushcraft show met some real interesting characters including the great lofty wiseman, he may be getting on but he is such a nice guy with an incredible amount of knowledge a real gent. Keep the names. Coming folks these will be on no matter what the weather is like, fire lighting is as much fun in the rain and is much more rewarding.
Looking forward to meeting you all.

Literally in the door from our Bushcraft Day ;D

Really enjoyable even when the heavens opened shortly after lunch. It did help with putting the fire out though :)

Got some good pics that I'll post later. Can't wait for the July one; highly recommended :)

My son was given the honour of fire lighter.

All that kindling grading paid off  ;D

Did someone order kebab?  ;D

Warm food outside is hard to beat!

Shortly after these pics it poured down  :o

After we were fed and quite literally watered we got a lesson in bow drill firemaking.

All was going well until it hit the damp tinder  :( Lesson learnt; keep your tinder dry especially when it rains  ::)

Spot the fire!!

Guys thanks very much for turning up today it was nice  to meet you all   Peter, Rachel Michael and Dan. Well done young Michael perseverance always pays off and you can feel confident In the fact that you lit a fire containing nothing but what you gathered from the wild with a firesteel and nothing else, there are a lot of people who call themselves bushcrafters who can't say the same! I had a great day thanks to your company and putting up with my incessant whinning about knife safety and grading kindling I'm an anorak I know.  ;D I'm looking forward to the next one. Great pictures by the way Dan!
