for those not doing the 7 sevens that day Newcastle will be filled with people for the Harry Ferguson festival to celebrate the anniversary of Irelands first flying tractor  ::)

A friend of mine is organising a charity hike up Donard on the day and as the Red Arrows will be appearing between 3 and 4pm you could time your walk to watch them from the hilll (i reckon the quarry near the 3rd Glen River bridge would be a good spot)

for those doing the charity walk its £10 entry and meeting somewhere on the grass at Donard Park at 10am, can't remember which charity its for (something local) but will get some more details

I'm game for this. What about a day on Donard? I have a 12 year old keen to get to the top again. We would have to start early to have any chance of getting a parking space though.

Who else fancies?

I might try this but my 6year old wants to do it also keeps asking me what age did your lad first do it j  .. I'm not to sure if he is old enough . I might just take both boys into newcastle and take it easy on beach messing about on skim boards till they fly over .

You could try for the Donard/Commedagh saddle or Bog of Donard and see what happens. We were considering Commedagh just because it would be quieter. I'd say Donard will be proper busy.

That's a thought and I have not been up Commedagh in a long time, parking at bloody bridge and using the track left hand side would be easier on him and I hate going up from Donard :-)

Wonder if there would be less of a view of the planes from Commedagh.

I think the view will just be as good as you will be able to look out over the sea . The red arrows where flying over a show in gilford a few years ago and they flew over my house in Banbridge to turn (8miles away) so I reckon you will get a better view looking both ways than sitting in Newcastle . The planes are bound to fly right over Donard/Commadeagh so people can see them all do their wee tricks from the promenade looking out to sea . I could be wrong

Update

We're going to watch the planes from the top of Commedagh with the kids and camp @ Meelmore onb the Sat night. I don't want to hijack this thread so I've started a new one here:

I added this in the other  'Arrows thread also, but just in case anyone doesn't check both...

As of today, 03/08 all RAF Hawk aircraft are grounded as a potential fault in the ejection system has been discovered.  This includes the Hawks used by the Red Arrows.

If you're intending to travel purely to see the display please check with the organisers before setting off.... And don't shoot the messenger.  :(

Yea I noted their timings were very precise - suppose you have to be in their line of work. Dont think they'ld get away with "stuck in traffic"
