Fatyak
« on: August 04, 2009 »

Has anyone ever heard of Fatyak sit on tops from Ocean Mouldings. They look really well and at £249.00 including backrest paddle seem good to me. Does anyone know if they would be suitable for beginners on rivers, loughs and eventually along the coast?

Why a Sit On Top Fatyak?
The Fatyak sit on top kayaks are manufactured in Williton Somerset in the UK by Ocean mouldings and provide an easy and affordable entry into the world of kayaking & paddling. They are very stable, easy to paddle and great fun for you, the children and the whole family. Because they're sit on top kayaks, it means that if the very worst happens and you capsize, it's not a problem because you won't get stuck and you can climb straight back on.

The Fatyak kayak is fun to paddle and suitable for all abilities, take it out on the sea and surf the waves, explore the coastline or go for a paddle on the local river.

The bit highlighted in red should answer your question mate

um..............no.

trust me , if your thinking of going round the coast on one of those , make sure your on flat calm water with NO wind ,nor any forecast either.
and dont forget your pfd, flares vhf radio and phone call to the coastguard beforehand.

in fact call the coast guard and ask them what they think of em lol. that should put you straight mate  ;D

having been rescued by the RNLI myself i can tell you the sea takes no prisoners, and unsuitable yaks and sales talk that get people into trouble .
i cant stress it enough mate, if you want to go yakking then get a suitable yak for the water your paddling on.

id say just by looking at that fatyak that it would be a b*stard to paddle in a straight line , let alone over distance. ( just my own opinion of course)

also, try before you buy with kayaks.some are more user friendly than others ;D, hope this helps.

ps yakking is the mutts nuts and can be really enjoyable when done safely.
