Title: Yukon Firebox
Post by: RedLeader on July 30, 2009
I've just ordered an Yukon Firebox from http://www.canoepaddler.me.uk. It's a firebox that folds flat for easy transport.

There's no extra charge for delivery to Northern Ireland so it's £47.50 for the heavy duty, £40 for the lightweight and £92 for the titanium (all delivered).

I have the heavy duty coming since I like a fire you can see from space  ::)
I'll post piccies and a review when I've run out of stuff to burn :D

I've given the new firebox a good ol' christening and to date it's been a good experience. The box is quite heavy so there's no chance of bringing it when backpacking, it's purely a canoeing and car camping accessory (Mr Postie wasn't too pleased :D). It was smaller than I expected (even though I'd seen the dimensions) but was easy to light, burns efficiently and doesn't require too much fuel as it isn't a big area. The one down side is it needs small fuel - I only had bags of logs that were too large for it and I had no way to split them. When I had burned all my smaller stuff I topped it off with charcoal which it handled nicely (I had been warned that you need the heavy duty version for charcoal as it burns so hot).

All things considered, it was a good buy and a great piece of kit if you a want a 'leave no trace' fire. I'm not sure if it would be a big enough fire for a group to sit around for an evening but for a couple of people I think it would be fine. The one thing I would like is some sort of lip at the front of the grate to stop bits of half burned wood from dropping out..

It was really easy to light - plenty of shelter and updraught

Woohoo, get the Super Noodles on!

Was speaking to someone yesterday who owns one and says I must buy one I won't regret it , apparently they are so light-weight , versitile with regards to methods of fueling and will fit nearly anywhere for transportation.

He carries his in his breast pocket :-\
