Hi this will be my first Trail half marathon , not sure if anyone has done this before looking any advice on eqpt , what to wear etc All help greatly appreciated

If it's anything like the mourne way half that I did this year (and it's run by the same people) there should be plenty of water stops with bananas, nuts and fruitcake to keep you going so no need to pack food or water. I wore a bumbag with an ultralight coat but many people just went without, all depends on the days weather. Not sure of the terrain so can't advise on footwear.

Grand just checked it out only one water stop at 6 miles .do a lot of road running so have the gear. What about jels and water mix have you used these?
-
Just one water stop is a bit miserly for a £35 entry fee! In that case I'd probably bring foldable bottle in the bumbag and pop a nuun tablet in it, a peanut and dried fruit mix would give you something to munch on throughout the run, never tried the gels myself, but maybe that's why I'm so slow ;D

7) Are there any feed / hydration stations?
There will be hydration / feed stations at various locations along the route. Ultra Marathon Checkpoints (mile 6, 13, 20, 26, 32)Marathon and Challenge Walk Checkpoints (mile 6, 13, 19), Half Marathon Checkpoints (mile 6) 10km (none)
This was taken from their website , I thought I had it wrong but no only one watering hole.........

Aye I done the half last year, sweltering day so brought 1gel and jelly babies and a full 2litres of water. The feed station was only water with the fruit cake they seem to use on all their events. Defo use trail trainers but there is about 2 miles on Tarmac. I wore a small pack but I guess it's what you are used too.
It's a good route, a mix of trails, beach, rocks and Tarmac. Tough enough but I got a great day, if it were to rain I'd say that cliff would be precarious enough in the wind and rain. Good luck anyway windy.

Claire thanks for that was messing about with a bum bag with 500ml , can always top up at the halfway point .trail trainers landed there tonight karrimor tempos .I'll see how they perform. Not a fan of the gels but use jelly beans before.thanks

I use them as an emergency, prefer the jelly babies. On a cool day 500mls would do me grand with a refill. But sure you know the craic there. Good luck and push to the front crossing fences and boulders.

Completed it and thoroughly enjoyed the different running style. Got caught behind the pack and was only able to breakaway on the beach and steal a few places on the wider paths. Tough going but the input was well worth the output. Interested in the MMM15 now so looking at putting a training schedule together.
