Hey Dave, sorry to hear your trip went a bit pear shaped for you but fair play for giving it a go.

Aw, gutted for you Dave  :(

Live to hike another day. Raw feet and a dodgy knee do not make for progress when time and weather are against you. They don't call it a challenge for nothing, sounds like quite a few have suffered.
Safe home!

Well I doff my cap to you for getting so far.  It's a darn sight further than I've ever walked.  Look forward to the write-up on what was still an epic adventure.  Hopefully you'll see it that way too.

I totally didn't get the training walks that I wanted to get under my belt done, life just took over and the next thing it was time to go so that definitely played a role too.

Yeah, the training always gets way-laid  :-\  Mike and I were just lucky last Sept that we'd done a lot of training earlier in the year as we hardly got any done the 2 months before the GR20.
I'd recommend starting before even entering, as it's never going to waste even if you don't make the lotto pick. Strength work also really pays off as a quick way to reduce injury risk... like that 'Conditioning for Hillwalkers' book mentioned (I'm more writing this to remind myself of it and others looking at this thread in the future)

and hopefully I will remember the things about route planning, maps, weight and accommodation that became obvious when there but not so much before.
Yes, hopefully... these nuggets have been very hard earned & will be invaluable to any of us planning similar endeavours down the line!  :D

Sorry to hear Dave that you had to pull out.  As others have been saying, maybe it was better to pull out then, rather to be pulled out by someone else.

Even though you didn't complete it, what you will be bringing back is more valuable than anything else.

Do you have any more pictures than what has been posted already?  Would definitely love to see more, and hear more.

The only downside to going outdoors is having to come back inside.
