Wild camping

Hi guys, quite fancy a wild camp sometime over the next couple of months. Ideally would like a forest which is remote enough to do some bushcrafty stuff and ideally with a river nearby to catch a few trout for winging on the bonfire, err i mean campfire. Any ideas?

The frequent wild camp spots are usually Donard Wood and Annalong Wood.  There is the Glen River beside Donard Wood and the Annalong River beside Annalong Wood, but I've never seen any fish in them!  A few of the guys have also done some wild camping in some of the forests around the Antrim Hills.

I don't think you get fish in mountain rivers - I'm guessing they need a lough/lake of some sort to spawn in before they travel down rivers. Just guessing though.

I don't know any wild camping spots that have rivers close by but I'd love to know if you find any. Discounting the fishing I'd say the same as most - Annalong and Donard woods are our usual haunts.

Thanks guys. As a teen I used to go camping in a forest near Ballinamallard in Fermanagh with a great river for fishing. That was 17 years ago though!

Now that I think about it, I've heard of people camping on the banks of the Bann. There's a wood up there called Moneygran (or something) that I checked out before for camping - it's right on the river. I'm sure technically you're not supposed to camp there but I'm sure you could get hidden away into it.

If you're inclined to travel a bit there's always Murvagh Beach in Donegal, near Laghy. Best to go midweek as it's a bit of a party spot.
Also, I've seen people camping amongst the sand dunes at Benone beach and at Whitepark Bay.
