Hello from Belfast
« on: November 11, 2012 »

Hello, I'm a 25 year old from Belfast. I try to get up the mournes on a Saturday or Sunday as much as possible. I've been meaning to join NI Wild for a couple of years now, I've finally taken the plunge haha. I used to go hiking but after doing a few mourne marathons I am really getting into this fell running. Recently I have been trying to get up donard and down again as fast as I can, love the thrill of going down as fast as possible. Though I don't need to be going fast to enjoy it, the breathtaking views make it worth it.  :)

Welcome. Get yourself doing laps of cavehill during the week. That will soon tighten you up for Donard.

mregan- I went to cavehill once, ran for about 1hr 30mins, got back to the carpark (which was quite full) and noticed someone had nicked my hub caps, was in a terrible mood for the rest of the week so I haven't been back unfortunately due to not trusting leaving my vehicle there. Shame as it would be ideal training.

landylaim- 1st week it took me 1hr30mins to get to the top and 30 mins back down. 2nd week 1hr20mins to the top and 25mins back down. Last week it took me 1hr15mins to the top though still 25mins back down. I wear a 32L packback weighing around 6-7Kgs. I feel I can go faster but because I usually eat my breakfast 5mins before I go up I tend to get stomach cramps if I push too hard at the start.
