Title: Still hilly after all these years...
Post by: Martin on April 08, 2015
So, on Easter Monday I kept a promise to myself and my daughter home from university, and climbed into the Mournes for the first time in more than thirty years. We clambered up to the Hares Gap, and once we saw that that hadn't killed us, we swung down to the edge of Ben Crom reservoir. After lunch to the sound of water gurgling over the big stones, and not a sinner near us, we trudged to the Mourne Wall along the shoulder of Bearnagh - the summit was a bit beyond our abilities, why wasn't I warned how steep these damn hills are?! - and down to the Hares Gap again. A great day, surpassing our expectations - even if the sun did burn the nose off me! :)

Some pics, if I can link to them...

The weather was so good I had a wee run yesterday after work over donard from the quarry (steep) then commedagh and down via the big pot (looking into it) was redders, face has a nice glow today. Wish I was off today too!  (http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/04/08/155d85665bec92c644b440d733ffbe8b.jpg)

Taking in the view coming off commedagh.

There's something tranquil about having lunch in the mournes.

Wasn't Monday just the perfect day for the Mournes, no chance of rain and just the right temperature. I brought the extended family up Doan (in their jeans and trainers  ;D )

Ott car park was full and just look at the amount of  cars parked down the road!

Ooh get all of yous with your lovely sunny photos  :P I was out the weekend before and had rain, wind playing havoc with tarps and mist on the tops.  I'm out this weekend too and the forecast is for light snow showers and feels like -7C  :'(
