Where are the best sea-fishing sites in NI?
I've tried Bloody Bridge and St. John's Point (round the corner from the lighthouse) and both times caught nowt.
Are there any better spots? Are the mackerel in yet?

I went to orlock point last nite mate and it was a nitemare, granted it was my first time there and hadnt a clue where to go, but it was really hard to find and cast from a spot that wasnt surrounded by rocks and lobster pots. For me in the north its hard to beat Ardglass, at the back of the golf course, or another wee spot that isnt well known is Kinbane head at the north coast, i was in that bay last year and had two basking sharks about 4m away from me, it would be a cool place to camp for the nite as well.

Thanks for replies. Will def have to try Ardglass, that's the second time somebody's recommended it to me.

We fished last year but I can't remember the name of the spot. I think it's around Crawfordsburn, down on the rocks. Was only a short walk from the car and we caught a few, nothing spectacular though.

Tried off the rocks behind the golf course at Ardglass this evening, but again no joy. As I was leaving some guy over at the harbour caught something, so they are out there.
I nearly always go for a simple set up with a spinner. Would I have a better chance with bait?
I want to catch a mackerel before they disappear again for the winter!

Your persistant il give you that. where i fish is normally about a 15 - 20 minute dander to the back of the course, through gullys and over cliffs, what time was the high tide at tonite, i normally find about 2 hours before its peak is best and would just use a spinner and 3 hooked trace, i like the small ones for herring.
Give her another go mate and im sure youl strike it lucky there, hey its better than watchin corrie!

Yep, the spot we fished from is just off the rocks here (http://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=54.66812,-5.683408&ll=54.668129,-5.683376&spn=0.001517,0.003439&sll=54.668297,-5.683424&sspn=0.001517,0.003439&num=1&t=h&z=18). You can park your car at the end of Brompton Road. Takes you to go near high tide though as it is quite rocky and easy to lose gear.
There are only a couple of spots I know of that you can fish at Orlock. If I'm not mistaken they are here (http://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=54.671312,-5.574306&hl=en&sll=54.670561,-5.57407&sspn=0.003034,0.006877&t=h&z=15) and here (http://www.google.co.uk/maps?q=54.669842,-5.573566&hl=en&sll=54.669978,-5.574607&sspn=0.003034,0.006877&t=h&z=15) (look for the green arrows). You can park in a lay by just off the Donaghadee Road. Again, best near high tide as it's quite rocky and I've lost a few spinners there. Last time I used a float which was much more successful, if only I could get my stop knots to work properly :-[

I was on the east strand near the rock pool in portrush * 14th and 15 of july * Hooked nothing but the BBQ made up for it.
There was alot of people on the rocks and i only seen 1 guy catch.

forget about the mackeral, theyre a thing of the past now after the fishing fleets have started to target them.
try donaghadee harbour,but bring either mackeral bait or lugworms.
either fish on the sea bed or use a float set to about five ft down.
you,ll not catch anything worth keeping but its amusing for a while...

Its very sad this over fishing, living of the land is going to be a thing of the past :'(
