Northern Ireland Summer Weather
« on: May 21, 2009 »

I keep reading news stories saying that we should prepare for a scorcher of a summer and that heatwave alerts are being prepared. Who thinks it's going to be a cracker? I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I have loads of outdoor stuff I want to do!

Heard that before, then it lashes down for three months. Would be nice but lets just say, I'm not buying sun cream yet.

Nor me. I hope it's true, but I'll believe it when it happens.

I haven't heard anything recently about it (don't watch TV much), but the last hint of a "summer prediction" I did hear was a guy saying that if this year turns out as bad as last, a lot of butterflies will die out.  Took that as a bad sign :)

So far the actual day-to-day weather has been pretty good I think.  I really hope it's going to turn out well; the last two years have been crap, but the years before were pretty hot.  If we have three bad summers in a row, I think it's safe to say something has gone very wrong with our weather system.

Nothing wrong with a bit of rain- especially for a bit of river running :p Although I have to admit I would love a sizzler this summer!

There's always an amusing split personality to canoers. On one hand they like nice weather like everyone else at the same time as always praying for rain so the rivers swell. The best compormise would be if it rained heavily Monday to Thursday and then was dry and bright Fr-Sun :D

I'm hopefully trying some faster river paddling for the first time tomorrow in my Canadian - all keep your fingers crossed I get home dry :D

Just to Shaws Bridge. I managed to badger and cajole another more experienced Canadian canoeist to take me down and show me the ropes. I can't wait, have been dying to get on to some faster moving water. You're more than welcome to come out with me some time - I'm always glad to see anyone who can lift an end onto the car :)
