Also there was a 14 year old died in England in his kayak. Got trapped under water in his boat.

Spotted that on the BBC News site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-13176244). I was a bit miffed by this bit:
A kayaking instructor, who was with the group, made it back to shore of his own accord.
Think that needs a bit further explanation! I mean was he paddling back to shore to raise the alarm, or did he just decide "screw you guys, I'm going home (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaPysXyndJ4)"?!

I've paddled there with a gentle offshore wind and the instructor deliberately rafted us up and talked to us for five minutes - then he said "Now look how far out we've drifted while you weren't concentrating" it was a lesson I'll not forget in a hurry.
That said, you're five times more likely to drown while driving a car than you are while paddling a canoe or kayak. (I worked that one out from RoSPA's 2005 statistics)
