Hares Gap, Winder than Glengormly
« on: November 20, 2018 »

Hello All,

I went for a wee day hike around Hares Gap, I hadn't been there for a good few years so i though it would be a good spot. The weather was pretty nice at the start so up I went from Trassey car park. the weather came in once I was near the Mourne wall (at least I thought I was) I had a moment of looking at the map. then looking around, back to the map. back to the land and thought to my self "I should be on the wall by now if I am not mistaken" turns out I was mistaken. I was going from memory for most of the walk and not checking the map as much as I should have, as such I was farther back on the trail and my memory of the Gap...well had gaps.

all in all a nice day out and I can say that this was the first harsh weather walk of the year and my kit handled it well although I think a tarp might be a good investment for the future because in lieu of good shelter i had to put off my lunch until I could huddle behind  the wall at Hares Gap due to some high wind Christmas cheer falling from the sky (snow/sleet)

But I got some nice pictures so see below.

If I'm not mistaken I think you took a wee bit of a detour and ended up at the saddle between Bearnagh and Meelmore.
Cracking pics, looks like you got a good clear day for it :) and always good to get testing out your winter gear to find that it's all good :)

You seemed to do all right there staying below the clouds.  Like the Glengormley reference, having lived there before I can know exactly what you mean :)
