My tent dilemma!
« on: July 28, 2011 »

Hi folks,

Advice for a newbie gratefully appreciated.  At the moment I operate out of a hooped bivvy for solo adventures and a Vango Tempest 300 for group activites.  I do a wee bit of voluntary youth work so need a fairly simple to erect tent for group activites as it's the wee uns that end up using the bigger tent.

I'm also trying to get the better half involved in camping and what not so any tent I get will have to be fairly 'comfortable'!
So, with all that noise in the background, this is my dilemma...

The Tempest has served me well and IMHO is a pretty good piece of kit for the money; I am now thinking I'm going to have to go for a geodesic/semi geodesic tent rather than tunnel to satisfy the missus' desires to be able to sit up fully inside.

I would want something that also satisfies group activites up the hills with the wee uns, so looking 3 season or above and again something easy to pitch - it will have to have the ability to pitch all in one otherwise the wee uns will be confused (and probably me too truth be told!)

Don't ideally want spend more than 200 quid - items that caught my attention include Vango Typhoon, Hurricane and the Vaude Taurus...some of the reviews of the Coleman Phact put me off it (although the price was very tempting!!!)

So, any sort of recommendations would be gratefully received...

Many thanks

The Tempest is a decent wild camping tent that can 'go up in one'. I'm not sure about the space in the others and not familiar with other 'up in one' tents... generally something that pitches outer first can do this (can you see the poles on the outside).
