I went for a bit of an adventure last night in the hopes of finding the Sprinkwee spot I have heard mentioned on here occasionally. I had tried simply following the river, but not far beyond the house I had to abandon the effort and spend the night in the forest as there was no way through the gorse as far as I could see. T'was no terrain for shorts.
Have I gone the right way or is there a slight detour around the river to get there? Or is it a case of a Winter/Spring only spot?
Any help is appreciated!

Hi Darran
You should be able to go there any time of year. Im not quite sure which way you were going but I would normally approach it from the East side where there is less vegetation.

Hmm, from the East side you say. Looking at the map, do you mean to follow the wall on the edge of Donard forest until it reaches Sprinkwee? I simply followed the river down through Tollymore and hopped a gate passed an abandoned house. It wasn't far from there that it got far too thick.

Yes, that's exactly the way I meant. The other side of the river is quite heavily vegetated.

Doh! I will need to try that next time. Thanks for the info!

There's a map with a route on this thread, courtesy of MourneMan:

Ah no, I see what I have done now! At one point I fell away from Sprinkwee river and started following the smaller river just to the West of it. There is a big patch of trees that were cut down due to a disease and because of this the track fell away. I walked following the smaller river and arrived at the track to the house. No wonder I couldn't find a way through the gorse, I was about a quarter of a mile away!
At least I know where it is now. I tried searching through the forum prior to this but only found this (http://www.ni-wild.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3987.0) thread with a broken picture. Oh well. At least I know now :-[
