The first ever peak to peak bridge has been built

Ok, so it's not really ever going to happen in the Mournes, but if it did, would would be the best spot? I'm thinking from Millstone to Thomas's mountain, accessible by the funicular railway I hope they build up the Granite Trail ;)

Is this purely because the view from one peak is better than the other? It doesn't look like a great distance between for all the effort required.

This reeks of the kind of thing that is happening at an ever increasing rate outdoors the world over. In an effort to make the outdoors "more accessible", some clown builds a crap ton of steel and concrete on a perfectly good natural spot. All so that folks with no desire to challenge themselves can saunter up some steps and take a selfie. For me it is right up there with having your own Sherpa army to lug your gear up Everest, and harks back to the old colonial days where the English gentry would find some sturdy good locals to carry the piano and wine cellar while they got some good sitting and pipe smoking time in.
I love the fact that there are lots of places in the world that are plain hard to get to, and knowing just how many of them are beyond my current ability just gives me ideas on how to challenge myself or strive to achieve a goal. The outdoors has a great way of humbling even the best of us by ruthlessly pointing out how we are flawed and squashing our ego like a bug, take that away by slapping on an escalator and what is the point?

There’s some misconceptions about this project I think. It’s not been dropped in to a wilderness area, it’s just a new bridge added to the existing observation platform at Glacier 3000 which is a an existing ski station. The small peak is called Scex Rouge overlooking the Tsanfleuron Glacier, Scex Rouge is loose shale not really a objective for anyone climbing. But Glacier 3000 is a destination for travellers from all over the world and for a lot of them it’s the first time they’ve seen a mountain and the first time they’ve seen snow. The platform and bridge provide a way for them to experience the mountains without any objective risk and reflects the feeling that we have here that the mountains are there for all to enjoy. This was opened last Friday by Mike Horn, the well known local explorer, and yesterday was the first time we’d been with some guests from our B&B. One of those of guests was a elderly lady who’s exactly the sort of person this is for. It’s a useful addition to the local tourism trade. They’ve got an alpine roller coaster as well!

::) "The first time they've seen a mountain." Here is another way climb a small one. If you enjoy it, climb a bigger one.

Aesthetics out the window. Also the sense of wilderness would be lessened.
