Gullie Traverse
« on: July 08, 2009 »

my self and 666_pack have just found out about a possible Gullie traverse of the Mournes starting from a Gullie on Slieve Commadagh. Has anyone heard of this before if so do they have any info on it?

I think this is possibly the trek you are after. The first gulley is at the Pot of Pulgarve on Commedagh then descend to the Pot of Legawherry, here you will go up a long gulley to the left hand side of the Pot. Proceed across Slieve Beg and descend to the gully to the right of the Devil's Coachroad; Satan's Buttress is on the left. The next gully is Skye-Pye on Cove then onto Summit Gulley on Ben Crom. A long walk away Great Gulley on Eagle is the last big climb. Hope this is the right answer for you. G'luck :)

I came off commedagh the other week down a gullie thing it was bit of a scramble with some pretty big drops, pretty hairy at times, on hindsight we prob cudda done with a rope! took us down onto the trassy track about half way along. I dont have my map on me at the min to check the grid ref but its marked as a cliff. Could that be what your talking about?

Here is some stuff i have found out on my lunch hour.

In the swirling mist the Stacks of Legawherry look like the worried wives of fishermen looking out to sea hoping in desperation for the safe return of their husbands from the jaws of a raging tempest.
P1 indicates position of the Pot of Legawherry on map above.

Bleck Cra(05-02-01 00:04): Slieve Corragh - “rough mountain”: ignored or derided by horny-hooved height-sprites: just letters to climb over, en route to somewhere else. But ahh, the Pot of Legawherry and the castles over Spinkwee - grandstand seats to view soul-healing panoramas of South Down

not too sure about this one

photo shows good scrambling territory on the NE of slieve corragh for the more technically minded mountain walker. approach from the drinns in tollymore forest park. about 40 mins from the forest boundary. avoid in the wet as it can get very greasy and doesn't dry quickly due to the northerly aspect. experienced mountaineers would enjoy themselves here in a hard winter.

We'll get this route pieced together yet.

Looks like some good scrambles to be had.
When you up for this stain, do you think it will before the end of the month or August?
