what kind of knife are you after?

if its a fishing/filleting knife then anyof the angling shops will sell you one.

if its a bushcraft type then thats another matter.

not all knives are the same though dude and you,ll probably find the cheaper shop bought ones are a but shite ,440 steel or softer.

you need to be more specific.

Army surplus shops are probably your best bet but with current knife laws it's hard to find decent knives in the high street.

i could throw one together for 45 quid without a sheath.nothing special, but still 4mm 01 steel heat treated and oak handles.

theres more to this caper than i though actually , but if you look at the `making your own knife thread then you,ll see what i mean.

do yourself a flavour mate and get some o1 flat ground stock and save yourself loads of work. unless you like grinding and sanding.

flat stock will cost you about 6 quid and 9 quid for delivery ,but you get enough for two blanks.

I don't think they would bother if your wearing all the outdoors gear back pack ETC..... but if you where dressed with track suit STC... it may be different.

If anyone is looking for bushcraft gear or knives etc, have a look at the castrom website. We can get good deals from them and would be happy to push the savings on to forum members. Personally speaking I'm not a fan of the big tactical knives they really are not much good for anything g other than looking tactical killing people and hacking at lumps of wood. Here is the website address.  http://www.casstrom.co.uk/

Cheers

I would recommend the guys @ NI Survival School for knives etc.
Casstrom is a good site, and they are able to get good discounts.
They're also able to point you in the right direction in terms of anything else that you may require.

They sorted me out with an Enzo Trapper Kit earlier this year and I got it for well below the usual cost of such a knife. They walked me through the assembly and finishing process and thanks to them, I've ended up with a very nice knife.
(no connection to NISS or Casstrom)

As said previously in this post, there are a multitude of knives out there, and your needs will dictate it's design. Mora/Hultafors knives are great entry level knives that hold their edge well. Helle/Enzo are good mid range knives.

Decide what it's being used for and go from there

Hope you find what you're after........
