If you are ever in the north west then there is a firm called Far & Wild. They do various outdoor things but at this time of year they also run regular walks to do star gazing. Can't comment on the quality of these as I have never been, but the general idea is that they will take groups to spots that are both dark, and likely to give good sky views at times where there will be interesting events. Bit more info and their contact details. http://www.farandwild.co.uk/activity/star-trekking/ (http://www.farandwild.co.uk/activity/star-trekking/)

Thanks rich, I'll definitely look into it. Was more interested in a few locations fairly remote, looking to head off with the fiance and dog for the wkend. As far as I'm aware there's very few places that wild camping is accepted so heading off in a group is likely my best option to begin with. Any and all advice welcomed  :)

As long as you are discreet, the high Mournes are a reasonable bet, as long as you are far enough away from Newcastle and Warrenpoint and Castlewellan. Wild camping is tolerated at least, as long as the place isn't wrecked.
